10 Red Flags When Hiring a Corporate Photographer
- No Contract — Any professional corporate photographer has a formal contract. No contract means no protection on delivery timeline, usage rights, or cancellation terms.
- Vague on Delivery Timeline — "You'll get your images in a few weeks" is not a delivery commitment.
- No Discussion of Usage Rights — If a photographer doesn't proactively clarify usage rights, assume they're not included.
- Portfolio Doesn't Match Your Specific Need — A portfolio full of weddings doesn't demonstrate corporate photography capability.
- No Pre-Event Briefing Process — If the process is "tell me where to be and I'll figure it out," they'll figure it out at your expense.
- Dramatically Below-Market Pricing — Below-market pricing usually means something is missing: less experience, no backup equipment, limited editing, no business insurance.
- Slow or Inconsistent Communication — How a photographer communicates during the sales process is how they communicate when you have a problem.
- No Business Insurance — Required by many major venues and a fundamental professional standard.
- "I'll Send Someone Else" — If you're hiring based on a specific portfolio, confirm that the person whose work you've evaluated is the person who'll be there.
- No Specific Process for Your Type of Work — "I can shoot anything" is not a reassuring answer when booking conference photography for a 500-person event.
