Everything you need to do in the days leading up to your session — from wardrobe prep to skin care to mindset — so you show up confident and camera-ready.
The Week Before Your Session
Preparation makes the difference between a good headshot and a great one. Here's your complete week-before checklist.
Wardrobe
- Pull out 2–3 outfit options and try them on in front of a mirror
- Iron or steam everything — wrinkles show on camera
- Stick to solid colors; avoid busy patterns and large logos
- For men: a well-fitted blazer is almost always the right call
- For women: structured tops or blazers photograph best
Grooming
- Get a haircut 1–2 weeks before (not the day before — hair needs to settle)
- If you color your hair, time your touch-up for 3–5 days before the shoot
- Men: decide on your look — clean-shaven, stubble, or full beard — and maintain it
Skin Care
- Stay hydrated in the days before your session
- Avoid alcohol the night before — it causes puffiness
- Get 7–8 hours of sleep
- Light moisturizer the morning of your shoot reduces shine
The Night Before
- Lay out your outfits — don't leave this for the morning
- Get a full night's sleep
- Avoid salty foods (they cause water retention and puffiness)
- Do not try a brand-new skincare product
The Morning of Your Session
- Eat a real breakfast — low blood sugar affects your energy and expression
- Allow extra time to arrive — rushing makes you look tense
- Bring all your outfit options even if you're "sure" about your choice
- Arrive 5 minutes early to settle in before we start
During Your Session
Your photographer will guide you. Trust the process. Most people are nervous at the start of a headshot session — that's normal and expected. Within the first few minutes, you'll find your rhythm.
The best expressions come from genuine moments, not forced poses. We'll keep the energy light and the pace comfortable.
